To become an accredited installer, there are a number of prerequisites which must be met, with ongoing obligations that must be upheld. These requirements alone set accredited installers apart from normal electricians.
The steps of CEC accreditation as an installer:
- Get trained in specialised installation and maintenance techniques for renewable energy products.
- Apply for provisional accreditation: This requires evidence of training, a current electrical contractors licence, working at heights certification, and public liability insurance of at least 5 million dollars.
- Become a full member after work is inspected and approved.
Maintain accreditation by performing a required amount of training each year, to keep up to date on new industry developments.
